There were mainly two reasons that led to the design and implementation of the volumes: firstly, the realization that in recent years Greek folklore has made significant progress, not only because it is taught in a large number of departments and schools of Greek higher education institutions, but mainly because it has been renewed thematically, theoretically, and methodologically; secondly, the lack of a collective theoretical work-handbook in Greek folklore bibliography for the introduction to the study of folklore science in Greece, following the example of similar scientific and publishing efforts abroad, such as those curated by the leading American folklorist of our time, Professor Alan Dundes. In this context, our initial thought was to move away from the practice of a theoretical, historical, and methodological introductory handbook, bearing the signature of a single individual, and to distribute the content of the two volumes in such a way that it reflects both the dynamics of Greek folklore and ensures the necessary polyphony in scientific approaches.
