A rare 13th-century manuscript describes a Byzantine garden, both real and symbolic at the same time. The anonymous author, as a diligent gardener, is well acquainted with the pomegranate trees, the citrus trees, the cypresses, the olive trees of this Mediterranean garden, and associates their characteristics with virtues of the human soul. The author, based on the Oxford manuscript, sheds light on aspects of the contemporary Mediterranean landscape.

A spiritual garden, a garden of virtues, is presented in contrast to a Mediterranean garden, familiar to all of us, and is complemented by the presentation of the work of the Philodassiki Society of Athens, in the Botanical Garden located in the area of the Aesthetic Forest of Hymettus.
