Description

At the end of the nineteenth century, Herbert George Wells wrote a landmark book in the field of science fiction: the famous Time Machine. A hundred years later, the renowned contemporary author Stephen Baxter ("The Time Odyssey", Aeolos Publications) writes the continuation of the adventures of the scientist protagonist, this time based on recent scientific discoveries in physics, astrophysics, and quantum mechanics. The Time Ships is a novel of relentless action, in two volumes, that takes the reader to the far reaches of space and time.

A. The Sphere Around the Sun and the Siege of Europe

In this volume, the hero will travel once again to the future, only to discover that it has changed due to his intervention in the course of History. The brutish Morlocks he encountered on his first journey have been replaced by a species that dominates the solar system and has enclosed the very sun in a vast, inhabited sphere! His adventures will continue in a parallel 1938 to our own, where the First World War is still ongoing and has turned Europe into a bizarre, underground, and nightmarish world.

B. On the Shore of the Paleocene and the White Earth

In this volume, the second and final of the work, the traveler of H.G. Wells and Baxter will return to the Paleocene Epoch, thus causing a new, parallel History for humanity, starting thirty million years before the normal appearance of humans on Earth. From there, the Time Machine will take him to a future dominated by intelligent machines and then lead him to the greatest endeavor ever conceived: the return to the very beginning of the creation of the universe, and even further back.
