In 1894, Dreyfus, a captain in the French army of Jewish descent, is unjustly convicted by his superiors for high treason. France is divided in two as it undergoes a deep political and moral crisis. The popular writer É. Zola stood up as his ideas of justice, democracy, and freedom did not allow him to remain silent. He had to defend an unjustly accused man and overturn a judicial error. He himself was found guilty of libel and wrote the famous "J'Accuse" as a practical proof that intellectuals must intervene in public life. Vindication came after the author's death. In 1906, by court decision, Captain Dreyfus's honor was restored, and the penalty imposed on Zola was annulled. In this case, heroes were revealed, ideologue fighters for justice, those who sacrifice their lives for a sacred idea.
