Description

"And so I entered a broken world in search of the dreamy companionship of love..." (BrokenTower)

Obviously, the "broken world" is post-war America. After the huge economic crisis that took on war dimensions, values and social balances are being redefined. The dying old world (Blanche) wants to be adopted by another one that is in a period of orgasmic creativity (Kowalski). It presents a new identity, an intense sexuality, and tries to take root in the new, which in turn is nourished by the flesh of the old. Blanche's speech highlights the American dream with all its pathologies. A dream that leads to defeat and final dissolution.

The eternal struggle of the old with the new, of the masculine with the feminine, of sensitivity with raw realism, is the excellent material to approach from the stage the "social realism" proposed by T. Williams as a response to "poetic realism", while the wet, suffocating night sings its own blues.
