The volume "Theater in modern and contemporary Cyprus" is the proceedings of the homonymous conference that took place in 2015 at the Theater Museum of Cyprus - co-organized by the Museum, the Municipality of Limassol, THOC and the Cultural Foundation of the Bank of Cyprus, with the support of the Postgraduate Program "Theater Studies" of the Open University of Cyprus. The scientific editing of the book is signed by Andri H. Konstantinou, Kaiti Diamantakou and Leonidas Galazis.
The proceedings are part of the Theatrologica series, directed by the honorary professor of the Department of Theater Studies at the University of Athens, Walter Puchner, who characterized it as "the statutory act of a distinct Cypriot Theatrology" at the closing of the conference. Both the conference and the volume were dedicated to the memory of Yiannis Katsouris, the founder of Cypriot Theatrology. The publication was made by Herodotus Publishing House in Athens in collaboration with the Theater Museum of Cyprus.
The volume contains 38 scientific articles focusing on theater in Cyprus or Cypriot artists. It is prefaced by V. Puchner and is divided into the following sections:
A. Honorary speeches, B. Cypriot playwriting: The beginnings, C. The younger generation of Cypriot playwrights, D. Theater in Cyprus and Greece: A dialogue, E. Theater, society, politics, criticism, F. The reception of ancient Greek and foreign playwriting.
The authors participating, in alphabetical order, are Marina Athanasiou, Vasiliki Andreou, Zoe Ververopoulou, Leonidas Galazis, Konstantza Georgakaki, Antonis Georgiou, Barbara Georgopoulou, Eleni Gini, Kaiti Diamantakou, Eleni Doundoulaki, Angeliki A. Zachou, Magdalena Zira, Sotiris Theoharidis, Christiana Karagianni, Kostas Karasavvidis, Katerina Karra, Styliani Keramida, Neophytos Kypranou, Angelos Kyriakoudis, Angela Konstantinidou, Andri H. Konstantinou, Giannis Leontaris, Savvas Patsalidis, Kyriaki Petrakou, Eleni Petritsi, Walter Puchner, Konstantina Ritsatou, Aura Sidiroplou, Aspasia Skouroumouni Stavrinou, Maria Andr. Spyropoulou, Chrysanthemis Stamatoopoulou-Vasilakou, Panagiota Sotirhou, Sofia Felopoulou, Maria Hamali, Emilio Haralampidis, Eusevia Hasapi-Christodoulou, Anthi G. Chotzakoglou, Christakis Christofi, and Elena Christoforou.
The editorial note at the beginning of the volume, co-signed by A.H. Konstantinou and K. Diamantakou, who also undertook the editorial editing, concludes with the hope that the publication will "stimulate the research and publishing activity around the theater of Cyprus", that it will "contribute to making Cypriot Theatrology, which is taking its first steps as an autonomous scientific field, known to the Greek-speaking and international scientific community" so that "Cypriot theater can enter into a more active dialogue with European and global theater".
