Description

The short stories and the poem in the book are freshly written. Rhenos has covered 10,000 kilometers with a pencil, pen, typewriter, as incredible as it may seem, yet it is measured, a quarter of the earth's circumference, 10 hours by jumbo jet from here to New York, and has produced about forty volumes of literature (mainly prose), criticism, thought, essays, philological studies on Heraclitus and other ancient Greek texts, along with the seven-volume "Anthology of Modern Greek Poetry and Short Stories" (about 4,000 pages, of the strictest known critical selection). Now, the younger generation considers him "modern," "parallel" as they find "Borges-like," even though he was of his father's age! For the older generation, he is the main representative of the "Post-War Generation," with the most intense personal testimony of the Civil War '47-'49, and the sharpest critic of modern Greek literature, spirit in general, and "politics" in our country. His speech is entirely personal, and one does not need to see his signature to recognize him immediately. He is also a philology professor, a journalist, and awarded with supposedly "prestigious" awards, which he never deigns to mention. Translated minimally into foreign languages, outside all circuits, and opposed to every political faction (he considers them all equally despicable), anti-mass and egotistical. From a young age, he was defined by the great Russian novelists, primarily Dostoevsky, and by the fundamental thinkers: Heraclitus and other pre-Socratics, the Gnostics and modern Anarchists, Nietzsche of course and Stirner, Bergson, Krishnamurti, and others. His style does not derive from modern Greek literature, despite his specialized knowledge of its texts, nor from anyone else. In the last five years, the general public knows him as an uncompromising critic, from his fiery broadcasts on television ("Anthology" and "The Civil War Within Us," on "Channel 5," but also on ERT and other televisions, radios, etc.).
