Description

The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B provides desktop PC performance. It features 8GB RAM, a faster 64-bit quad-core processor, support for dual displays up to 4K resolution via a pair of micro-HDMI ports, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, wireless LAN, Bluetooth 5.0, and power supply via USB-C.

Fully upgraded, redesigned, faster, more powerful

The speed and performance of the new Raspberry Pi 4 is a step up from previous models. Changes have been made to increase the processor speed, video and multimedia performance, RAM, and connectivity compared to the previous Raspberry Pi 3 model B+, while maintaining compatibility with older versions and low power consumption. Whether you are processing documents, browsing the internet with multiple tabs open, working on spreadsheets, or creating a presentation, you will find the experience smooth.

Silent, energy-efficient

With passive cooling, the Raspberry Pi operates silently and uses much less energy than other computers.

Faster I/O

The Raspberry Pi 4 features two USB 3.0 ports, offering transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, ideal for connecting high-speed peripherals such as SSDs and flash drives. There are also two USB 2.0 ports for connecting lower-speed peripherals like keyboards and mice.

The Ethernet port of the Raspberry Pi 4 operates at true gigabit speeds, for modern wired networking, and as with the Raspberry Pi 3 B+, there is also support for Power-over-Ethernet (requires the Raspberry Pi PoE HAT).

Finally, it provides wireless networking and Bluetooth 5.0.

Supports 4K resolution, with dual micro-HDMI

There are dual micro-HDMI ports that support up to 4Kp60, allowing you to use the Raspberry Pi 4 with much larger screens with clarity, precision, and high resolution. Use the H.265 4Kp60 decoding to watch 4K movies on your favorite media center console.

For the first time, you will be able to use two HDMI screens with the Raspberry Pi. This is great as you will be able to have two different desktops simultaneously, without having to work in tiny windows.

You will need

  • A 15W USB-C power supply
  • A microSD card loaded with NOOBS, the software that installs the operating system (buy a pre-loaded SD card with the Raspberry Pi or download NOOBS to load a card yourself)
  • A keyboard and a mouse
  • Cables to connect to one or two monitors via the micro HDMI ports of the Raspberry Pi 4

I bought it to connect some sensors to the GPIO and collect some data. It does its job perfectly fine. However, if you want to use it as a media player, it plays at 1080 but you need to be patient until YouTube loads and there might be some video lags. Of course, since I have it for data collection, background processes might slightly burden it, but still. I also added a passive cooler on top and with a load of around 80%, it gives me temperatures this summer that do not exceed 80 degrees. But it requires a large cooler, not those the size of a coin that cover it completely.

I bought it 2-3 months ago for €170 because it was in short supply, and now your price has dropped below €100. That's why I had written "not vfm".. but at €100 I think it's fair.

I use it for a Web Server with Ubuntu, it's amazing, I don't care about wireless connection at all, I use it with Ethernet, it handles heavy applications that I have programmed without consuming a lot of resources, the downside is browsing, so applications using the Selenium library are heavy.

It has incredible development capabilities, I create many projects with all Raspberry products, I also love the Picos, now with the price of kilowatt-hour rising, I will set up zero-consumption systems as it can be easily supported by an economical photovoltaic system due to its low energy requirement.

If you have knowledge to set up Kubernetes/Clusters and operate 5/10/20 Raspberry Pis as one, then you achieve incredible power at a relatively low consumption, and this is the only way if you don't want to be ripped off by the power company.

The machine is definitely worth its money. It runs any operating system without any problems. So far, I have tried Raspberry OS, Twister OS, Ubuntu, Windows 11, Android 11, and Android TV. With a fast SSD or USB stick, it performs amazingly. I have also added a cooler tower and it doesn't exceed 46 degrees. The only downside is that its WiFi doesn't reach maximum speeds. Maybe it's because of the aluminum case I have installed.

It is very good for its price. The only thing it needs is a simple cooler: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/19462441/Set-psyktron-gia-to-Raspberry-Pi-4-3.html?from=account_favorites

An interesting solution for someone who wants to enter the Linux world without spending a lot of money. It's also a great solution for kids to start getting into computers. If you're good with electronics and programming, you can make cool gadgets on your own. Finally, it's a cheap solution for setting up a home file server.

I wouldn't recommend it for a media player.

Excellent in the 8GB RAM version. To reach 2GB usage with Raspbian, you need to open any application, so it's perfect to note that it works from the first time it was plugged in with active cooling and thermal paste, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 34 at worst after an hour without the fan running. Generally, when you're getting a Raspberry, you should factor in around 30-35 euros for a cooler. Note that you can install Windows 10 with 8GB RAM, and it runs smoothly. You can also use Raspbian like I do, but don't be afraid that it's 32-bit - it reads the 8GB normally and doesn't lag anywhere. When you're getting something, get the best version - half measures aren't worth it, especially since you can install Raspbian, Windows 10, Ubuntu, etc. It's better to get the 8GB version like I did.
