The woman he had been forced to abandon, as he himself writes, because he decided to spend the rest of his life completely detached from carnal love? I felt a shiver run down my spine. Because I knew that the tradition about Augustinus has no other information about this unfortunate woman or the years she spent with the great theologian, apart from what he himself mentions in his Confessions."
