The novel "On Heroes and Tombs" by Ernesto Sabato is the second of a trilogy that summarizes his entire fictional work, except for the two essay works mentioned in the biographical and bibliographical note.

The first novel of this trilogy has been known in Greece since 1982 (The Tunnel, Star) and is related to the two subsequent novels of the trilogy only in terms of its general metaphysical and existential problematic, specialized in the case of the role played by the blind in the lives of their heroes, but also in the obsessions of the author himself, I suspect.

However, the next two novels of the trilogy (this one and Abaddon the Exterminator, which will follow this edition) are organically, I would say, connected to each other, both thematically and through the continuous references of the third novel to the characters and things of the second, without the reading of which the complete understanding of Abaddon the Exterminator will be impossible - but the reading of the latter will retrospectively illuminate the "dark" events and characters that dominate "On Heroes and Tombs".
