From the Kafkaesque work, God is not absent. However, his name is missing. In the verses of the Alexandrian, we encounter the entire Greek theology, both in its polytheistic version and in the Christian one. Nowhere does the poet dogmatize or preach. The divine for Cavafy is a part of human behavior in society with life. Sometimes, he responds to despair to give meaning, while other times he remains silent interpretively. Occasionally, the transcendent is personified, wandering in the alleys of mortals or invisibly wandering in the houses of history. In any case, it is present, like a wish, like a reference, like a role.

This book examines the position of the divine - in all its aspects and meanings - in Cavafy's poetic discourse, collecting and analyzing all those poems from his entire work that testify to this relationship - the finite with the immortal, the human with his God.
