In his latest fiction book, Burroughs is succinct, saying everything in a few pages, four or five specific things; without chaotic openings in the writing, without extensive aesthetic experiences that tear through landscapes within us like tender blades to reveal even darker ones behind them. He is here so tender, more so than in all his other books combined.
