Description

"A special illumination permeates every season of the year. In spring, the sunlight spreads continuously brighter and in summer it reaches its peak. In autumn, the sunshine diminishes and at the end of December, after the winter solstice, it begins to strengthen again. What remains untouched and unextinguished in all seasons is the spiritual light of the Sun of Righteousness. Essential in the spiritual journey of every Christian."

(from the Preface of the book)

The sermons in this volume were mostly published in 1978 in the Sunday leaflet "Voice of the Lord", when Archbishop of Albania Anastasios was Bishop of Androusa and General Director of the Apostolic Ministry of the Church of Greece. The comments on Holy Week were written for radio broadcasts on ERT. Both were addressed to tens of thousands of diverse recipients.
The variety of listeners in various cities and villages explains the alternation of style. As a rule, for each Sunday a brief sermon is presented with direct reference to everyday life.
This volume includes the readings of the Triodion, Great Lent, and Pentecost, as well as most of the excerpts from the Sundays of Matthew.
The purpose of republishing these texts is, according to His Eminence Archbishop of Albania, "to offer useful material for sermons and speeches in various church gatherings. But also to help every reader who wishes to approach basic Christian truths with personal reflection," and emphasizes that "every serious study of the hagiographic texts, with humility and an open heart, renews our spiritual powers.".
