Description

[...] The assessment of Jacobo Campanella's career so far is impressive: thirty-four theatrical plays; six film scripts and two television scripts; several poems that were incorporated into his plays and became songs; a stunning chronicle of his captivity; an exceptional volume of speeches, presentations, and interviews. He has directed several of his own theatrical productions and two films, countless performances of his works in Greece, and his works have also been successfully staged in many "difficult" countries such as England, Austria, Russia, Germany, Norway, and others.
I do not know what dimensions his work would have taken if he came from a rich and powerful country, like Arthur Miller, for example; it is up to each person's thought to give an answer. However, many of his texts, if they had been written in England or the United States, would be considered globally outstanding today. Regardless, the volume of his body of work, its high quality, as well as the very important role of the author personally in the field of culture and, specifically, in the establishment and development of modern Greek theater, lead to the unbiased observation that Campanella belongs to the greatest figures of theater in the twentieth century.
