Description

The "Modern Latin-Greek Dictionary" is distinguished for its scientific accuracy, completeness, and scope. Its vocabulary extends from archaic Roman literature to the 9th century AD. One hundred and fifty years after the dictionaries of Koumanoudis-Ulerichos (1854) and Tsakalotos (1889), it fills a significant gap in Greek literature.

The entries in the Dictionary (approximately 70,000) have a dual structure. The first part includes pronunciation, any alternative spelling or phonetic forms of the word, grammatical identification, etymology, morphological variations, and the syntactic behavior of the word. The second part presents the semantic range of the lemma with its various meanings, and provides Latin excerpts as examples of the semantic cases.
In addition, it includes personal names and geographical designations, as well as scientific terms found in Roman literature, accompanied by brief relevant information.

These characteristics make the "Modern Latin-Greek Dictionary" a reliable and valuable tool not only for teachers, researchers, and students in the field of Philology, but also for other disciplines such as History, Archaeology, Law, Theology, Medicine, Pharmacology, Botany, Zoology, Astronomy, and Architecture.

For this monumental Dictionary, two groups of specialized university professors and classical philologists worked for approximately ten years, under the supervision of the professors of Latin Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Dimitrios Nikitas and Leonidas Tromaras.
