Description

The fall of the wall...

The Muslims of Thrace surprised everyone in the elections of April 9th. They refused to obey the orders of the Turkish consulate this time, broke the dividing lines, ignored the preachings of hatred, and voted for Christian candidates. 36.7% of Muslims in Rodopi and 54.4% of Muslims in Xanthi closed their ears to the sirens of nationalism and voted for an Orthodox candidate. In Rodopi, MPs Evripidis Stylianidis (ND) and Chrysa Manolia (PASOK) received a total of about 5,000 minority votes.

The solutions provided by the state through the Minister of Interior, Vaso Papandreou, regarding the problem of appointing a management committee for vakoufika and the issue of access of minority citizens to public positions (by adopting a quota of 0.5% for the selection of Muslim public servants) help ensure peaceful coexistence.
However, it is time to see a response from the neighbors. The recent decision of the European Court of Justice regarding the pseudo-mufti does not affect the essence of the election of legitimate muftis. Those who insist on implementing the decision will divide the minority, which will have a "puppet" mufti (without judicial powers) and a legitimate one with full powers. It would be good to abandon illegal claims. It is time for the voices of division to be silenced and for moderation and common sense to prevail!
