Henry David Thoreau, one of the most important visionaries of 19th century America, a free spirit and deep connoisseur of the philosophy of life, lived for two years (1845-1847) in the Walden Pond area on the shores of Lake Walden, in a harmonious process of searching for identity within the inseparable unity of nature, with that unique feeling that embraces the universe, expressing the inseparable connection of the self with the external world. In "Walden," which he published in 1854, he describes his initiation into the higher shades of spiritual pleasure, reliving the original unity of the world. That spiritual pleasure of the elevation of man that has nothing to do with the usual malicious disposition towards life.
