This collection includes texts by Peter Singer, Tom Regan, Josephine Donovan, and Lori Gruen, four of the most renowned philosophers dealing with the field of animal ethics. The texts in this collection introduce the reader to the philosophical issues of our obligations towards non-human animals. With the exception of the first text (by Lori Gruen), which serves as a brief critical introduction to the issue, the remaining articles represent the three most significant trends in animal ethics, namely Peter Singer's utilitarianism, Tom Regan's rights theory, and the approach from the perspective of ethical emotions, which in this volume is represented by ecofeminist Josephine Donovan.
