Description
In this study, you will follow the evolution of the pharmacist profession in the regions of Asia Minor, Pontus, and Cappadocia through a historical journey.
During the research for its writing, the variety of information was pleasantly unexpected; we found pharmacists who were also doctors, cinema owners, photography studio owners, owners of more than one pharmacy with branches in Chios and Samos, Macedonomachoi, volunteers in the Balkan Wars, presidents of patriotic organizations, significant factors in the Greek diaspora.
Georgios Moraitis, as we will see, employed 120 employees in his three-story pharmacy, 15 of whom were pharmacists. In Koutsafotopoulos' pharmacy, 15 doctors were examined simultaneously. In an edition for Thrace, 10 pharmacists from Asia Minor are mentioned as contributors.
Finally, we found two female pharmacists, Leonidi Vasiliki from Adana and Polymnia Panagiotidou, a graduate of the University of Athens in 1899 from Eudokioupoli (Tokati).
Get to know this industry through time, with rich accompanying photographic material.
