For 10+ years with a Remington HC 5550, a regular war dog that cost 50 euros, I switched to the Philips following the reviews.
GRIP: The Philips machine is clearly lighter. This is not always good because weight adds to stability. The hand trembles more easily with a lightweight machine. Additionally, its plastic is smooth and there is no elastic or non-slip surface anywhere.
ERGONOMICS: The machine's chassis forms a greater angle than that of the Remington, without negatively affecting it. However, it requires getting used to.
DURABILITY: Unknown in practice, but it is almost certain that if the machine falls from the hand, it will be damaged. The least I expect to happen is for the base of the comb, which is designed to fit into the machine, to break.
CORD: It is long enough to allow use with the cord connected. However, the charging port is not universal. In contrast, the Remington has a micro USB, so when the charger gave up, I used a regular one from a mobile phone with the corresponding cable. Here, if the charger breaks, there is no such possibility.
CLOGGING: For 10+ years, the Remington never clogged. The Philips clogged hair from the beard on the first use! Maybe it was a coincidence. I remain skeptical.
CLEANING: Relatively easy. I don't know if the height adjustment wheel on the combs can be cleaned. It is not necessary yet.
PERFORMANCE: The Philips has one and only one speed, unlike the Remington, which had 2 (regular and turbo). I would like it to be a little faster. The Philips' blade has shorter and narrower gaps because it is also intended for trimming, which sometimes - not often - forces you to make a second pass during trimming.
NOISE: I don't know if and why it may be of interest, but it is small, at the same levels as an expensive Panasonic.
BATTERY: Useless. It fluctuates in speed even when fully charged. It discharges quickly. It performs ONLY when the cable is connected to the socket.
After 2 years and something, after the warranty expired, I have some unpleasant news.
Initially, I was impressed by the cutting quality (it didn't get clogged at all) and it would trim almost everything in one pass.
Lately, the machine has been visibly declining. It's like it's "chewing" the hair and doesn't cut well at all. I have to go over the same spot 10 times or stay in the same spot for a few seconds to cut properly.
So, the haircut has become quite tiresome and it seems like I'll need to get another machine.
In order for everyone to draw their own conclusions, I must mention the following:
- I have been cutting my own hair as an amateur for years.
- I have changed at least 4-5 machines from different brands.
- I used the machine about once a week.
Regarding the above problem:
- It happens whether it's plugged in or using the battery.
- It happens from the beginning of the haircut.
- Cleaning is not an issue, I clean it regularly.
- Lubrication is not an issue, it always has oil.
The machine now only works with the smallest comb or without any comb, and even then it's mediocre, so its use will only be for the body and even that is a struggle.
I am updating the rating to 2 stars for the following reasons:
- 1 star is essentially 0.
- It worked well for 2 years in terms of quality.
I mostly use it for 0.5mm beard trimming and occasionally body hair trimming, it does the job very well, battery last long enough and the machine itself feels very premium... In contrast to the plastic attachments, they're very fragile and feel cheap, even noname Chinese trimmers use better plastic. Also, the length setting (using the attachments) starts from 3mm, so you can't do anything from 1mm to 2.5mm.
Coming from professional machines, 18 years as a barber but I don't make a living from it... The machine is VFM. Powerful, compact, high-quality. I like that it only has two attachments with adjustable length. The professional Wahl I had was bothering me with its 50 different attachments for each length despite costing three times as much. Given my experience, I will buy Phillips again.
I have already bought 2. One for the body and one for the face. If one of them breaks, I will buy the same one again, I won't change it with any other. In case it falls, maybe the head will tilt a bit and make a little more noise, but nothing more
It's a beast of a machine. I had the previous model as well, which lasted for many years. It doesn't have small steps, and it's a problem if you want to do a fade or get very close.
Okay, after a few months it doesn't perform the same. Besides that, the *steps* are not elastic at all and they break very easily in a fall. Other than that, overall it's okay.
For many years I have been using Philips hair clippers for trimming beards.
Recently I upgraded to the Philips HC5612/15 hair clipper and I continue to be absolutely satisfied ♂️
I mainly use it for beard trimming to maintain a stubble look (without any attachment or sometimes with the 2mm precision comb) and now for a full haircut.
The new hair clipper comes with three additional heads:
A 2mm precision comb (sometimes I use this for beard trimming or without a comb).
An adjustable comb that cuts from 3mm to 15mm in 1mm steps (I use it for haircuts).
Another adjustable comb that cuts from 16mm to 28mm in 1mm steps (I use it for haircuts).
Everything included is shown in the photos and video.
I am incredibly satisfied with this HC5612/15 model.
The price I bought it for is worth it and I consider it value for money.
The HC5612/15 model does not include a travel case.
For those interested, the HC5630/15 model includes a travel case.
You can clean the heads using an old (but clean) toothbrush instead of the very small (and uncomfortable) brush included.
Highly recommended - it is a fantastic choice for all hair/beard grooming needs!
For haircut it doesn't work..get something else. It constantly gets clogged and with the second comb for slightly longer hair it doesn't cut at all, so it's useless. The only haircut you can do is the short "military of the conscript".
I have had it for 2 years and I use it frequently for both trimming and shaving my body. The machine is quite powerful, the battery lasts a long time, and it can be used while charging with the cable. Cleaning is very easy as it is waterproof. You put it under the faucet and rinse it off. It is quite sturdy in terms of construction. It is worth every penny, 100%. And even if it broke, I would buy it again.
The truth is that I bought it only for the beard and it's okay, it cuts and it's smooth afterwards. The negative thing is that it's quite wide and it's not easy to make the beard if you want to keep it all the same length. It's difficult in "corners".
It states that it has an adjustment from 0.5 to 28. However, the small comb does NOT adjust. So, you have 0.5 and then 3mm... The previous model I had had an adjustment every 2mm. Unacceptable...
It cuts well with moderate noise, while the cutting combs give the feeling that they are fragile. With older models, you could easily trim your mustache because they had a proper adjustable attachment (comb), now they have an attachment for beards that does not adjust and they call it a three-day beard, minus one star because they force you to buy a second device.
I have it for almost a year, quite soft cutting, the battery lasts quite a bit, and simultaneous use while charging is a lifesaver! It cleans very easily. Although a bit bulky, it is accustomed quite quickly. Its price is quite good. If they also provided a stand, it would deserve the 5th star. 4/5 from me
I have been cutting my own hair and my son's for years, so I have some amateur opinion about hair clippers. I really like this one because it is quite powerful, its battery has good duration, and it is generally very user-friendly. For this price, it is probably the ideal purchase
There are no words for its reliability. After using 5 different machines in the last 10 years, it is considered (in my personal opinion) by far the top one.
What an awesome machine this is! It shaves very comfortably and doesn't get stuck anywhere. It is a bit bigger compared to others, but you get used to it
Update:
Finally, the power issue is not due to the battery but due to friction. I applied oil to the blades and it cuts like new, while without oil, its performance drops as if it has no power.
I can't understand why they say it doesn't need lubrication, of course it does.
The problem with hair pulling on the neck remains. Every time I try to shave my neck, it causes a wound and catches the hairs.
I bought it a few days ago, it arrived quickly in 1-2 days and I used it immediately upon receiving it. I was expecting it to be small in size, but it is a bit big, but that is not a "problem". It is easily cleaned by placing it under the faucet (it is waterproof and I particularly like that because it cleans the hair very easily and simply) and it does not clog at all. It does not make much noise when used. I use it for my beard and to shave my head without a guard, and I can say that I am very satisfied because it easily cuts the hair and I don't have to spend a long time shaving my head because it does it quickly! It is worth its money and more
Well.......the best trimmer I've ever had! Finally, a device that works satisfactorily with both electricity and battery and is easy to clean! You simply remove the top part of the machine and rinse it under the faucet. Laziness, it's waterproof! I highly recommend it without hesitation!
Awesome machine for its price. I have had it for about 1.5 years and it hasn't shown any negative signs. It cuts very well and doesn't pull. With the combs it has and the adjustable wheel, it covers all lengths. Get it with closed eyes!
After searching, I ended up with this one. I have had it for a year now and I only use it for shaving. It is an excellent product, no problems at all, it doesn't clog at all. It's worth its money.
I have been buying this brand for 12 years now! About every four years I replace it, but I never find the same model even though each time the new one is better than the previous one! After 2.5 years, some teeth that hold the head inside the machine broke and the head does not stand still, also the button sticks and does not turn off easily and it happened simultaneously for some reason! I use it in the bathroom in the water always charged so it doesn't stick at all and although it is convenient, I was disappointed that it cannot be repaired and I have to go for a new one even though its battery is still good because I charged it 15 minutes before and after each use and always stored it fully charged! If I don't find a more reliable one, I will have to buy the same one again!
I cut all the men in the house (I am not a professional, it takes my hand enough) this machine is by far the best one I have bought. It doesn't make noise, it has the option to use it with a cord or with a battery, no one complains, everything is good. The only problem is that I have had it for about 2 months now and it's time to clean it thoroughly, but it seems like I'm not doing well in removing all the hairs that got inside. This, of course, may be my own problem. I just want to maintain it because it cuts very gently, I don't want to ruin this feeling.
