Description

"The Tombs of Atuan" is the second book in the "Earthsea" cycle. Here we are transported to the remote Kargad Lands, where the fair-skinned and warlike inhabitants worship the spirits of the Great Old Ones, their distant ancestors, and disdain magic. The Tombs of the Nameless Ones on the island of Atuan is the most sacred place of worship and is guarded by a small community of priestesses and eunuchs led by the high Priestess.

At the age of five, little Tenar will become the high Priestess, but she will lose everything: her family, her home, and her name; she will become Arha, the Eaten One, dedicated guardian of the Tombs and the worship of the Great Old Ones.

As she tries to adapt to her harsh and monotonous new life, an unknown intruder invades the underground labyrinth beneath the Tombs. What does the intruder seek? What will this event mean for Tenar?

"Earthsea" is a world with countless islands, each with its own culture. It is said that the oldest and wisest creatures in the world, the dragons, reside there. These island societies accept magic as an integral part of their lives, and everything has a secret name, which whoever knows it, has power over it.

The fantastical world of Earthsea has been compared to J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth and C.S. Lewis's Narnia. Its creator, the great Ursula K. Le Guin, wrote five novels and a series of short stories set on the islands of the archipelago, which are considered classic works of fantasy literature.

Aeolos Publications are reissuing the "Earthsea" books in Greek, with the addition of an epilogue by the author herself in each volume.
