Description

The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B provides desktop computer performance. It features 4GB RAM, a faster 64-bit quad-core processor, support for dual displays up to 4K resolution via a pair of micro-HDMI ports, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, wireless LAN, Bluetooth 5.0, and power supply via USB-C.

Fully upgraded, redesigned, faster, more powerful

The speed and performance of the new Raspberry Pi 4 is a step up from previous models. Changes have been made to increase the processor speed, video and multimedia performance, RAM, and connectivity compared to the previous Raspberry Pi 3 model B+, while maintaining compatibility with older versions and low power consumption. Whether you are processing documents, browsing the internet with multiple tabs open, working on spreadsheets, or creating a presentation, you will find the experience smooth.

Silent, energy-efficient

With passive cooling, the Raspberry Pi operates silently and uses much less energy than other computers.

Faster I/O

The Raspberry Pi 4 features two USB 3.0 ports, for transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, ideal for connecting high-speed peripherals such as SSDs and flash drives. There are also two USB 2.0 ports for connecting lower-speed peripherals, such as keyboards and mice.

The Ethernet port on the Raspberry Pi 4 operates at true gigabit speeds, for modern wired networking and, as with the Raspberry Pi 3 B+, there is also support for Power-over-Ethernet (requires the Raspberry Pi PoE HAT).

Finally, it provides wireless networking and Bluetooth 5.0.

Supports 4K resolution, with dual micro-HDMI

There are dual micro-HDMI ports that support up to 4Kp60, allowing you to use the Raspberry Pi 4 with much larger screens with clarity, precision, and high resolution. Use the H.265 4Kp60 decoding to watch 4K movies on your favorite media center console.

For the first time, you will be able to use two HDMI screens with the Raspberry Pi. This is great as you will be able to have two different desktops simultaneously, without having to work in tiny windows.

You will need

  • A 15W USB-C power supply
  • A microSD card loaded with NOOBS, the software that installs the operating system (buy a pre-loaded SD card along with the Raspberry Pi or download NOOBS to load a card yourself)
  • A keyboard and a mouse
  • Cables for connecting to one or two monitors via the Raspberry Pi 4's micro HDMI ports

User for over a year, having tried many operating systems (Windows 10/11, Raspbian, PiHole, Android, Balena Sound...), I am literally impressed. It has withstood everything. One major drawback is its temperature, where you don't need to worry, as it throttles when it exceeds 80-85 and 90. I have used it during the summer months and everything is fine, but the performance drops and even minimizes. I would simply recommend an ice tower. However, regardless of its use, I would suggest buying it..

We didn't expect anything less from the new Raspberry Pi, that's for sure. It's excellent both as a home server and as a server in general. I even used it for local testing for a while and it performed exceptionally well. The little fan does make a small and annoying noise after a while, but that only applies to heavy usage, so under normal conditions it won't be bothersome.

Raspberry PI 4 B 4GB. Use as a media station and Home Assistant function.
For the money, it is an excellent purchase as it is a light Linux environment that you can even build as a PC if you want.
    Overall
    + Interesting for DIY
+ You can build a PC economically
    + Small size
    - It heats up
    - To bring it where you want, you will need at least the following additional purchases such as a fan/case, power/mini HDMI cables, wireless mouse/keyboard, possibly various modules depending on the use, a reliable SSD/cable, a screen if you don't connect it to an existing monitor/laptop/mobile.
    - The Raspberry PI community is not mature

Compared to the previous model, it is much improved, perfect for web servers, emulators, or any other type of project.

Of course, if you want it exclusively for web/minecraft servers, it is better to get the 8GB version.

If you are interested in low temperatures with or without overclocking, you should get the ice cooler heatsink. It is perfect for keeping the Pi at low temperatures.

Upgraded significantly compared to the Series 3, I got the 4GB version. You can watch YouTube with minimal frame drops, with Twister OS you can play some old x86 Windows games (Lutris + Wine), and Retropie also plays some PSP games. Beyond that, it is a stable system that can stay on day and night and run applications, like Pi-hole to block ads on other devices such as smartphones and smart TVs. In terms of temperature, if you push it with games and have it in a case, it overheats and gives warnings. What I do is leave the case without the cover.

I have the 2gb model for retropie and it works perfectly, but with Linux it still freezes even on the light versions. Now with this specific one, I run ubuntu-mate with minimal freezing (which goes away if you overclock the processor) and I have a regular PC for simple web browsing and Netflix. If you also install android TV, you have a powerful TV Box. It has many capabilities for projects and developers, as for most, 4gb is more than enough, without needing to go for 8gb. However, it is recommended to install heatsinks and a good case with a fan for slightly better cooling.

This particular machine is very good and worth its money. To make sure it doesn't overheat, you also need the following case: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/20457476/Raspberry-Pi-4-Aluminum-Metal-Case-with-Fan.html?from=account_favorites. Otherwise, it is very fast and reliable. I upgraded from a Pi 2 to this, so the performance is day and night.

If you manage to overcome the very common problems with HDMI that many screens do not recognize or sound issues that many Linux distributions have with continuous changes in boot settings, maybe you can finally enter the operating environment, then yes it is worth it about 70% as a desktop computer or as a server. I gave up on them.

Very good product, it literally does everything. It's not for beginners. Very good value for money. Very satisfied. I use it for internet tasks and remote control, and as a NAS server FTP. It's worth trying and experimenting with. Put a cooler on it and you're good to go. I have it on all day long

You know the features. Regarding the temperature, however, a new firmware has been released in Raspbian that lowers the temperature by several degrees (about 8). The commands are "sudo apt-get install rpi-eeprom" and "sudo rpi-eeprom-update". I also have the Flirc case and it doesn't exceed 52 degrees with sysbench (at room temperature). The ExplainingComputers channel on YouTube has a lot of information and benchmarks. I use it as a server, where it does its job perfectly. In Raspbian, which I tried, YouTube is still not fully supported by Chromium, this time due to some software issue. This will likely change in the future as the Raspberry Pi Foundation works on the software.

It is for people who know what they will do with it, it has an issue with temperature in its case so it definitely needs the fan! Very good signal on WIFI! BT, fast without any problem! It will have a "problem" if proper cooling is not done! I have it as a mini server and ADs remover on the whole network.
