In the first part of the book, (a) the "philosophy" of modern seismic design is explained in detail, (b) certain practical issues regarding education, simulation, and analysis of building structures are highlighted, with a critical view of relevant provisions of Eurocode 8, (c) the basic modern practices of building simulation from FEM are presented with diagrams and photographs, and (d) the calculation process according to Eurocode 8 is presented in flowcharts. In the second part of the book, several numerical examples of building analysis using reinforced concrete and characteristic structural reinforcement are provided in great detail based on Eurocodes 8 and 2. Finally, in the third part of the book, the provisions of Eurocodes regarding the minimum reinforcement requirements for reinforced concrete elements, as well as certain basic technical terms (Greek and English), are summarized. The book is a particularly useful tool for the structural engineer who is called upon to apply the Eurocodes in the preparation of seismic studies of buildings using FEM.
