The electric guitar ST-20HSS by Harley Benton is aimed at guitarists of all levels, from beginners who are just starting to learn to play to more advanced musicians looking for an affordable yet quality option for their collection.
It is suitable for various genres of music such as rock, jazz, blues, and more, producing a rich, warm, and natural sound, thanks to its passive pickups.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
What can I say? Excellent guitar. I bought it from a store that was closing down for 100€. I got it as a second guitar and it ended up becoming my first.
Pros:
Quality construction, nice finish, just works and has a nice clean sound for what I play (Greek rock and folk). It doesn't go out of tune, which makes my life easier during live performances.
Cons - negatives: the nice finish unfortunately makes scratches quite visible.
Its pickups, like all strat with single coils, produce the classic hum which I didn't know about as I was playing humbuckers for so long. However, only I notice it and colleagues who have been playing strats and teles for years just consider it normal.
It is an incredibly good guitar with proper setup (adjustment of pickups, etc). It is not suitable for heavy metal in general, but it is amazing, don't think that it is cheap, so it is a waste of money. It sounds better than a guitar worth 250€
I start with the important part, for the money it has unexpectedly good sound. I didn't expect it, but it sounds quite good.
So, the positives:
It has a nice color and a nice feel to the body of the guitar.
The frets don't buzz as much as other cheap guitars (they buzz relatively little, and can be fixed by adjusting the neck with an Allen wrench and adjusting the frets), and the fretboard is relatively comfortable for my taste.
It produces good sound in all three pickups.
Low cost.
On the negatives:
Certainly, the tuners will need to be replaced in the future. They are just okay, they easily go out of tune. It's relatively cheap to replace them.
The sound, although good, definitely doesn't compare to other guitars that cost twice as much.
The fretboard needs work with filing and finishing as it is somewhat dry and the edges of the frets pinch.
The tremolo is below average, I would say it's not even worth using.
The strings definitely need to be replaced. With 10 euros, you can get much better ones.
The saddle is plastic and of poor quality. It didn't cause any problems for me with buzzing, but if someone has an issue, they might want to replace it with a specialist.
In summary:
It is a very cheap guitar that, for the money, produces quite good sound compared to other cheap guitars, and in the end, that's what matters at least for someone who is looking to start in the world of music.
What has impressed me about this guitar is that it has very good bass, but the most beautiful thing is the crunch it has when you press it a little...
It is more than worth its money and it deserves it...
Now, if you also get a metal pedal, it changes its character...
It goes from being gentle to wild... very wild... it's worth it.
Well done, Harley Benton...
