Description

1941. Greece groans under the harsh German Occupation, along with the inhabitants of a small Aegean island: Leda, a young widow, ostracized with her daughter by the local community; Grandpa, the elderly man who has taken her under his protection; the strong Markos, who does not flinch in the face of danger but hesitates in front of words; the mayor, the doctor, the lawyer of the island, and other prominent citizens. At some point, the Athenian Rita and her teenage son will join the small island community, in whose house Sergeant Georg Fischer, of distant Greek descent, will soon settle.

At the same time, in Berlin, naval surgeon Christian Miller will meet Maren, the woman of his life. However, the war will soon separate the two young people. The humanitarian Christian will find himself on the Greek island, determined to fight only the common human enemies, death and pain, with his scalpel as his weapon. However, war is always unpredictable...

Island Greece-Berlin... Conquerors and the conquered, besieged by the barbarity of the Second World War. Fears, anxieties, passions, doubts, but also the greatness of man, who always manages to "illuminate" even the darkest times.

A book that demonstrates the need for maintaining global peace but also the greatness of humanity even in the worst circumstances.
