Description

The small and lightweight Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 G lens works with all Nikon cameras, both digital and film, with automatic or manual focus, and its results impress every time.

As with any 50mm prime lens, the angle of view it provides with an FX body is 47° and with all DX bodies 31°. These lenses, when used for portraits, are distinguished by their sharpness and control over depth of field, and in low light shots, they stand out for the amount of light they can "capture".

The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 G is compatible with all bodies and provides autofocus functionality even on cameras that do not have a built-in focus mechanism, such as the D3xxx series (D3000, D3100, D3200) and the D5xxx series (D5000, D5100, D5200), and the F3.

Shine in Every Light

Get stunning results in low light conditions

This lightweight standard lens is an excellent companion for travel, because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With the fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.

Beautiful Background Blur

Achieve a more natural depth of field

Whether you're photographing portraits, food, or nature - indoors or outdoors - the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G delivers beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at wider aperture settings. And its 50 mm focal length is ideal for creating a natural perspective in your photos.

Capture every detail

Capture sharp portraits every time

Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission performance and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the Aspherical Lens Element (AS) of the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Combine it with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus, and you can be confident that all your portraits will be sharp.

Technologies

  • Silent Wave Motor (SWM)

AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts "traveling waves" into rotational energy to focus the optics. This allows for high-speed autofocus that is extremely accurate and super quiet.

  • M/A

Some NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode that allows switching from autofocus to manual focus with virtually no time lag, simply by turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focus while looking through the viewfinder.

  • Aspherical Lens (AS)

A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. It is used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful for correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements required. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

  • Super Integrated Coating

Nikon's Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for the multi-layer coating of optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

Lens with amazing sharpness, fast and silent focus, and excellent color reproduction. If the transition is made from a lens kit with apertures of 3.5-5.6, the difference in quality in the photos is significant. Personal opinion is that it is better than the 35mm lens since I have tried both. Its only drawback is the somewhat narrow frame, especially on crop cameras, but you quickly forget about it and adapt!

    My first lens, with D610.

I haven't used it much. Only around 500 photos. But its sharpness is very good. And if you can shoot at f/2.8 or 3.5, it's perfect.

Keep in mind that it suffers from coma at the edges with wide apertures. So if you're shooting stars or small lights, it would be good to close the aperture a bit.

But overall, if you're not constantly zooming in the photos, you won't notice much.

[EDIT] One and a half years and 50,000 photos later, I have to say that it's a very good lens, especially for its price. For anyone who wants to add a prime lens to their collection but doesn't have 800-1000€ for a Sigma f/1.4 art, this is a very good lens for any use.

The classic nifty-fifty. Very good lens, very good sharpness. Just what you need to get away from the kit lens and get 100% from your (crop) sensor. In crop cameras, it becomes approximately 75mm (1.5 x 50) so it's not exactly a 50mm there. However, it is a good focal length for portraits. I recommend it to any amateur who wants to deal with portraits and subject separation, that is, blurring the background.
Now for full frame, it is also good, but there are definitely better lenses that showcase the sensor better.

I use the lens on a d5600. From the 35mm, I switched to the 50mm and the difference is huge. Better colors, better bokeh, sharper, and I haven't noticed any chromatic aberration in my photos, which was a big issue with the 35mm. The x1.5 crop factor is also something I like. Overall, this lens outperforms entry-level cameras.

The most fvm 50mm lens you can find.... Tremendous bokeh, quite sharp for its price especially at f 2.8.... Find it used for 150€ and take bomb photos

Very bright lens. Very lightweight and the f 1.8 is magic. I bought it for 190 euros on sale and I don't regret it at all. I have the 70-300 and the 18-140 but they have larger minimum apertures, so here I noticed a difference in brightness.

As a newcomer to photography, I am quite satisfied with this specific lens. Before purchasing it, I had been told that it is mainly for portraits (which I am very pleased with in terms of image quality and color representation) and not for landscapes, so the only negative aspect I find is the build quality, as the focus ring's stop broke within the first 20 days and it continues to rotate beyond that point.

I have had it here for two months on a D3300. If you want an affordable and lightweight lens that takes nice portraits on cameras without autofocus motor, you won't find anything better.
If you have a D7000 or above, the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D would be an even better choice.

A good lens for its price. Quite fast autofocus, good color reproduction, very good sharpness, and overall a nice portrait lens but not the best. On a crop camera, as many have said, it becomes 75mm which saves it somewhat, but still, the lack of VR in these lenses is a bit of a trap - it requires tripod practice. Overall, it is a very good choice and value for money.

A very nice and must-have lens for every photographer who wants to do portraits. On crop frame cameras, it is 75mm, so almost exclusively for portraits, on full frame it is also suitable for street photography and generally fits a few more types of photography. I highly recommend it! If you have a crop frame camera and you like street photography, I suggest the 35mm AF-S DX.

    Positives:
    -Fast lens
    -Very good in low light
    -Almost silent
    -Fast AF
-Very good sharpness (I prefer f2.8 in the setup)
    -Good bokeh
    -Full frame lens

    Negatives (technical details):
-When used on a crop frame, it is more difficult to photograph indoors as it zooms in quite a bit
-The focusing distance is quite large, so there needs to be some distance when focusing on a small object

One of Nikon's top lenses. Sharpness, bokeh, focus.
On DX cameras, the focal length goes up to 75mm (x1.5 crop factor) and functions as a portrait lens.
No negatives for this lens. It should be in every photographer's bag!

Nice lens, even at 232 euros.
It is also widely available in the used market, good value for money.

In terms of image quality, it is almost excellent.
From 1.8 to 2.8, it is okay.
From 2.8 to 4, it is very good.
At 5.6, the sharpness result is amazing.

Small and lightweight, it is a must-have lens for those who have FX cameras.
For DX cameras, it is perfect for portraits.

Fast, lightweight with exceptional bokeh. It makes you a better photographer by playing with the steps and not with the ease of zoom. A lord lens at a unique price. As written and mentioned on the back, it fits both ff and Dx formats naturally. Beautiful clicks to everyone.

Lens with reasonable cost, lightweight and multiple uses.
It is ideal for everyday use and captures almost exactly what you see. If you need zoom, of course, you will have to move yourself!!
It also performs very well in portraits.
