The central issue of any society is to answer Adam Smith's classic question about which work "increases its real income". And this is because there are jobs that increase the income of society (productive), but there are also jobs that consume income and make society poorer.

In the era of Karl Marx, productive work is the one that produces social wealth and contributes exclusively to the process of capital accumulation.
