This book is a summary of the long experience of a person who had the fortune to live through significant moments and critical phases of the history of this place. Born and raised in Thessaloniki, Stelios Nestor experienced the interwar period and the dictatorship of Metaxas, the war, the Occupation, the liberation and the Civil War, the crippled post-war democracy, the dictatorship of the colonels, and everything that followed after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the period we still refer to as "metapolitefsi".

However, "Synaxari" is not a historical book, nor a systematic biography. It is a recording of scattered events that remained etched in the memory of the writer and marked his life. Many of them bring to life the atmosphere of other eras and give the reader the opportunity to reflect and appreciate, by looking back at the past, the great changes that took place during this long period of time. Others are fragments of the great History, brought about by circumstances that placed the author at the center of developments. References to the anti-dictatorship resistance, the "Democratic Defense" and the ordeal of the junta prisons, the adventure in the newly established PASOK and later in the experiment of Left reunification in Thessaloniki and the "Coalition of the Left and Progress" are personal testimonies that serve no other purpose than to shed light on political paths and mentalities characterized by a lack of imagination and perspective. Those that kept the Left prisoner of outdated perceptions and prevented it from taking advantage of the favorable climate of the metapolitefsi.
