The term "narratology" refers to the scientific field that developed in the mid-20th century within the framework of literary studies and, having as its object the structure of a narrative as well as the act of narration itself, attempts to establish a theory of narrative discourse. A narrative is the text, that is, the oral or written speech, which contains a story (the myth, the narrative content, the set of events presented) and which must be transmitted through a narrative act, the narration (the speech through which the story is presented). Thus, narratology focuses, more specifically, on the types of narrators, narrative techniques, plot, etc. and proposes models for the analysis of narration.
