End of summer and Jane, on a California beach, reminisces about her childhood in distant Scotland. She longs for the solitary lake and the snow-capped mountains in the distance, but most of all she longs for her grandmother and, of course, the charming, eccentric Sinclair.
And lo and behold, the unexpected visit of her grandmother's lawyer becomes an opportunity for the long-awaited return to Scotland.
But there, she is not greeted by tender love, but by the shocking realization that she has loved the wrong man her whole life.
