Description

Dear reader! I found on the internet the fragments of the papyrus of Philodemos' work "On Anger". This work was written for the ancient Garden of Naples or for the ancient Garden of Herculaneum by Philodemos himself. It was intended for the internal use of the Epicureans of that time. And it was for internal use, due to disagreements about the anger of the wise. Philodemos' component is opposed to the component of Nicasocrates. Nicasocrates believed that the wise should not get angry or, when they do get angry, they should seek revenge. Philodemos, on the other hand, tells us that the wise will get angry. But they will get angry with biting anger. That is, they will simply be bitten by anger, they will be provoked. Indeed, the wise also have feelings. Thus, according to Philodemos, they will intensely dislike the person who has wronged them and will hate them. Because they will have harmed them to a great extent. However, they will not be disturbed. Because they will consider anger as momentary. And of course, they will not seek revenge. Because revenge, according to the wise, is a characteristic of an inferior person. And furthermore, that revenge turns against the avenger.
