Description

How are computers and robots changing the meaning of human existence? How is the epidemic of fake news being addressed? Do nations and religions still matter? What should we be teaching our children? As technology evolves faster than our understanding of it, hacking becomes a war tactic, and the world seems more polarized than ever, we are called to navigate our lives through the uncharted waters of the future amidst continuous and disorienting changes.

Harari rises to the challenge. In the twenty-one accessible chapters of this book, he highlights the critical questions we need to ask ourselves in order to survive in a world very different from the one we live in now. Drawing on ideas introduced in his previous works, he unravels the most complex political, technological, social, and existential issues: How can we maintain some freedom of choice when Big Data is watching us? What will tomorrow's workforce look like? How is the threat of terrorism addressed? Why is liberal democracy in crisis?

Harari's unique ability to show where we come from and where we are going has captured the imagination of millions of readers. Here he invites us to reconsider the values we believe in, the meaning of life, and our personal stance in a world full of noise and uncertainty. Because when one is overwhelmed by irrelevant information, clarity is power.

DENIAL the end of history is postponed
WORK when you grow up, you might not have a job
FREEDOM Big Data is watching you
EQUALITY whoever owns the data owns the future
COMMUNITY people have bodies
CULTURE there is only one in the world
NATIONALISM global problems need global solutions
RELIGION now God serves the nation
IMMIGRATION some cultures might be better than others
TERRORISM don't panic
WAR never underestimate human stupidity
HUMILITY you are not the center of the world
GOD do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
SECULARISM recognize your shadow
IGNORANCE you know less than you think
JUSTICE our sense of justice may be outdated
POST-TRUTH some fake news lasts forever
SCIENTIFIC FICTION the future is not seen in movies
EDUCATION change is the only constant
MEANING life is not a story
MEDITATION just observe

Reviews

  • The book is fantastic, easy to read, and with a simple and understandable meaning. It tackles serious issues and analyzes them in a humorous and satirical way that makes it very interesting. I would definitely read other books by the author, as this is my first one, with the certainty that they will be equally interesting and captivating as this one!

Harari is Amazing!!! I suggest before someone buys this book to first read Sapiens and then Homo Deus! Unfortunately, Homo Sapiens is the worst species of organism that has emerged on our planet. It operates like cancer. A mutation of some cells of the organism, they begin to reproduce at will without the organism being able to fight them and in the end they kill it. Unfortunately, Homo Sapiens has been doing this for 70,000 years, it has destroyed most of the planet (Fauna, flora) and its end is not far off! Respect to Harari!
