The central question of this book is: Does history, that is, the way we narrate the past, relate to democracy? It consists of three parts. The first concerns the history of democracy, the second the relationship between history and democracy, and the third thoughts on how to strengthen the relationship between history (and historians) and democracy. Its goal is to show how history and democracy are mutually reinforcing and parallel processes.
