The best choice for Android TV, especially since most Chinese ones have been blocked by Netflix. It will turn a regular TV into a smart one. Zero problems, it will never freeze. It contains pure and certified Android TV, which means it looks at the Google Store for TVs, not for mobiles or tablets. It offers Google Assistant if you set it up in English (in Greek it works as a simple voice search). The remote control does not require line of sight with the box, so you can hide it behind a TV. It is compatible with the Google Android TV Remote control (app for mobiles). Its wifi is reliable even for 4K streaming, as long as you have a good router or mesh. If you are concerned about the lack of Ethernet, you can plug in a USB to Ethernet in the single USB port, or buy a USB Ethernet + HUB to support multiple USB devices such as an external hard drive, keyboard and mouse.
Positives:
Compact design, Bluetooth remote control, affordable price, central menu, very good picture and sound, audio commands on the remote control.
Negatives:
Lack of Ethernet port forces you to pay extra for an adapter, outdated software. It mainly restarts when watching CosmoteTV without being able to find a solution to the problem.
Conclusion:
Basic level. In Cosmote TV, which was the reason I bought it because it is unrooted, I would like more stability.
Update 28/12/2022:
The problem with the CosmoteTV app continues daily with constant restarts, making noise first and the box will probably go for recycling because it can no longer be tolerated. The only thing for sure is that I would not buy it again and would go for a more expensive box of another brand with Android 10.
I have had it for almost two years, since October 2022, and I am absolutely satisfied. Small and super light, very easy to connect, it works flawlessly in 99% of cases. I have it on an old Samsung that is not smart, but I have also tried it on an F&U that is smart but does not support Cosmote TV, Ant1+, Disney, etc. The box supports every app available on Google Play, and any other that can run on Android with a few settings you can find online. If you have a VPN, you can watch content from anywhere in the world. No issues with Wi-Fi at about 10 meters from the router, even with 3 walls in between. It has never frozen, and 3-4 times in 2 years it has happened to restart by itself. The remote control is slightly slow to respond (I haven't tried what someone mentioned below, to set it to English), but we are talking about a few seconds, it's not like you will wait an eternity... You can set it to turn on your TV when you turn on the box, so all control is done from the TV box remote only. At €50, when I bought it, it was excellent value for money; now that its price is over €90, I would probably look for something else, likely the new one from Xiaomi.
I also bought this specific device. I had the older one and now I switched to 4K since my TV was 4K from the beginning. Now the box handles Google TV compared to the old one which was just Android, and many apps couldn't be installed. There is a big difference in picture quality and the huge difference is now in the sound. It supports pure surround sound Dolby Digital and it simply sounds amazing!! A big difference!! It's worth its money and the upgrade I made. It was purchased for about 50 euros. Don't pay more. One downside that it has and I have to mention is the slightly complicated menu and software. It requires a lot of searching and time to learn it. For example, the power button, when pressed for a long time, no longer takes you to a menu to turn off/restart. You have to enter the menu and after pressing about ten buttons, go to the system and restart from there. One minus star for its menu. Overall, it's fast and of high quality!
**To avoid WiFi issues, buy a USB to Ethernet adapter (easily found in big well-known stores...) and connect it directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable.
Easy activation, easy search and installation of applications/streaming platforms such as erflix, installation of supported website (does not have Chrome) and playback of audiovisual material from websites such as megatv, ertflix. Very fast, no lag even though it only works with Wi-Fi. Easy and simple remote control. Very good purchase price and 2-year warranty.
I have it for about a year.
Quite slow to open. Occasionally it would freeze and have some glitches.
Lately, it keeps restarting constantly. I put on OTE TV and I can't watch a channel. It keeps throwing me out and starting from the beginning. By the time it opens and you get back in, you're frustrated.
Also, a big negative is that it doesn't have an ON/OFF indicator, so you don't know if it's turned on or frozen.
It constantly gets stuck, I have to remove it from the socket for it to work. Other than that, when it's working, it's okay, runs smoothly and has an Android menu, easy to use
If you don't have psychological issues, you will develop them; if you already have them, they will worsen. It is tiring every time you need to open it since it requires a restart. Also, frequent restarts occur while watching a program. Spend some extra money to get something better. The positive aspect is that it plays everything.
At startup, it is very slow to start, it shows the image but you cannot make program choices for a long time. I believe that for the money it costs, it should be faster.
Everything you need to make your TV smart. With Android, you can update and download whatever you want. The only observation is that it takes a little longer to start.
I have 2 of these devices. I am completely satisfied with the applications and performance. I have also put movies on a USB and it plays them perfectly (with the corresponding application, of course). I use it a lot, even on our vacations, by connecting it to any TV and to the internet with a wifi router, and I am incredibly satisfied.
It has a small issue that many users have mentioned, and that is the time it takes for the remote control to become functional from the moment it is turned on. The solution is simple. Change the menu from Greek to English. :)
The only problem we all face is the wireless connection issues.... I had 150 Mbps speed with the mi box under the router and it was freezing.... Get a USB to Ethernet cable and the mi box will become wired with a cable.... It doesn't freeze anywhere for just 10 euros.... Simply turn off the Wi-Fi and connect the cable and it works fine
This with the remote control is infuriating, I haven't found a solution in any of the devices I have, they all have the same issue... Stay away from Xiaomi for such a device
For the money and the job I want it for, it's fine. I only use it for Netflix and YouTube. It's perfect for that. The only negative is that it disconnects quite often and sometimes freezes a bit, but if you give it 2-3 minutes max, it will work fine. So, it's good
It has been working continuously and flawlessly for two years. The only negative thing I could say is that the remote control takes a while to connect every time the device is turned on. But let's not be impatient, a few seconds of patience and then everything is perfect. Correction, if you switch the language to English, the remote control connects immediately.
And one star falls very much for him
This particular one is to drive you crazy
I haven't opened it once without it getting stuck
Every time I have to unplug it to restart it
At some point I will crush it...
Kids stay away from this product
I read the warnings but didn't pay attention and regretted it.
I chose it based on the very good reviews it has received, but in my case it doesn't justify them at all. It's incredibly problematic to use, to the point where I'm too lazy to bother using it and choose to go to another TV in the house.
On the one hand, when I try to turn it on, it almost never opens on the first try. I have to unplug the plug from the back and plug it back in for it to work. On the other hand, when it does open and enters the menu (Netflix, Disney, etc.), it takes a minute for the remote to work. You press it constantly and it doesn't obey at all. I don't know if it's the Android version it's running or something else that's to blame. What I do know is that in no way does it justify the €50 it cost me.
The idea of turning a "non" smart TV into a smart TV is very good and can be achieved through a TV box like this product from Xiaomi. I mainly got it to have the Cosmote TV app and occasionally use YouTube and rarely Netflix. The connection via Wi-Fi is immediate, as long as the signal is good. There is also the possibility to download additional apps through the play store. However, the Chinese product often experiences certain glitches that either resolve on their own or unfortunately, in several cases, require unplugging the power cord to reset.
I have it for almost a year. It is fast in movies, music, etc., with a big difference in speed compared to other cheap Chinese boxes, even though it has specs that make you worry. Its disadvantages are that it does not have an Ethernet port, only wifi, only one USB port, and there is no shutdown option... Only standby option.
This is a very good box, because it stays on standby and doesn't shut down. A friend who also has it suggested that I cut the plastic on top so that the board doesn't get hot and doesn't stick at all, plus it also gets air. Generally, anyone who has seen it knows what I'm talking about since there are no holes. It's worth buying!
I had bought it for 40 euros in 2021, with instability issues in many applications that are probably due to the android version. If it only gets an upgrade, it's worth buying it.
Everything is fine! I have worked with 3-4 devices in the past before I switched to the Nvidia Shield that I recently purchased. I haven't experienced any disconnections/freezes except for some occasional issues with Kodi, but it might be the app's fault.
After 1 year of use and after learning its quirks (you never turn it off), it now refuses to connect to wifi. Everything else connects fine except for this. You try to relax but end up spending an hour troubleshooting...
I have two. One without the update, which runs smoothly, and one with Android 8.1 that freezes terribly when it starts. It's slow and unreliable. It was decent before the update, but not anymore.
The best option for a TV box if you're only interested in streaming. There's no competition at this price point.
