Description

Inspector Anders Oikonomidis felt the fatigue returning and overwhelming his body. He lay down on the floor and closed his eyes. Three women were murdered by an unknown assailant, a shadow. A student was murdered by Johan Line, while the only living witness who can convict him is afraid to testify. A drunk man stabs a broken bottle into a woman's carotid artery for a few crowns and then cuts off half the ear of a man who found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. A police officer disappears without notifying anyone. What the hell is happening in the world?

"Riding the wave of global reader attraction to Scandinavian noir, Greece can now afford to have a top-tier author of the genre with prospects for an international career. In his prose […] the detective novel transforms into a sociological manual, functioning like a cold scalpel that plunges into the underbelly of Swedish society, twisting its blade in the cracks of the welfare state and the false North European prosperity that breeds moral decay and serial murders.

Inexhaustibly vivid, with each scene reminiscent of a film sequence, from the setting of the narrative canvas to the precise staging, the well-drawn characters, and the tense dialogues, with unexpected plot twists following one another, the author will captivate the readers of Jo Nesbo and Henning Mankell, while in the figure of Inspector Anders Oikonomidis, he delivers one of the most iconic representatives of contemporary detective fiction. This review is about the publication date: 2014

A nice novel, Vangelis Giannisis' first attempt, and I can say that it was worth his time and money. However, I read it after "The Castle," which was truly impressive, and since "The Hatred" is the first in the series, I somehow lost a part of the magic that it would have created for me if I had read it first. Now I knew what would happen to some of the characters...
