In the dead of night, one of the caravans at the Rupertshein campsite catches fire.
Oliver von Bodenstein and Pia Sander (formerly Kirchhoff) initially believe it to be arson. However, their investigation takes a different turn when the charred remains of a man are recovered from the ashes. The macabre list of victims begins to grow, and the investigation leads the two detectives back to the summer of 1972, when Bodenstein's best friend and his beloved fox mysteriously disappeared. For the detective, this is a childhood trauma he never overcame - for the local residents, an old story that no one wants to dig up...
