This study critically examines both current and scholarly representations of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It begins by offering an original interpretation of Zionism and then critically addresses the popular studies of Joan Peters, Benny Morris, and Anita Shapira. Additionally, through careful scrutiny of archival material, the author provides a critical analysis of the dominant images of the Arab-Israeli wars of June 1967 and October 1973. In the new, comprehensive introduction of the book, the most complete possible review of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is provided, while in other new chapters, the author compares Israeli policy in the Occupied Territories with that of South African apartheid and refutes the claims made in Michael Oren's recent bestseller about the June 1967 war.
