  • Amazing machine, excellent build quality, excellent performance on both Windows and macOS. The Traktor Pro 3 license that comes with the controller is excellent. It is also possible to use it with VirtualDJ Pro (licensed, not Home) through mapping that you can download from the software.

Until now, it has been a one-way street for those who use Traktor, but with the prices they have reached, it will become accessible for others as well. I don't think there is any other 4-channel professional controller for under €1000 anymore.

After 2 pioneer controllers (ergo, ddj sr), which I used with the traktor 2 software, I decided to get a controller that is exclusively made for this program. From the moment I saw it, it caught my eye. I saw all the reviews circulating on the internet, I read all the critiques. The problem is that all the reviews were old, at least a year ago, when the controller was released and probably had many issues, in combination with Traktor Pro 3. Also, due to distance, I couldn't see it live, only in photos and videos. I had also read that it only works on at least an i5 computer, so I bought a laptop (I wanted to upgrade my equipment anyway). In the end, it works fine with my old laptop TOSHIBA SATELLITE C55-A5310, i3, a 2013 model. As soon as I received it, the first thing I did was a firmware update from the Native website, so that it can also function as a standalone mixer. When you connect it for the first time, it automatically prompts you to update. You enter the serial number of the controller and it also displays the serial number of the program. The packaging does not include the program. You download it from Native and activate it through the service center. The settings are exactly the same as Traktor 2 (except for one additional setting you have to make in the controller settings, so that the pitch works correctly). Traktor 2 remains on the computer (it doesn't upgrade from 2 to 3, but installs a new program) in case you want to work with another controller. I connected the turntables for the first test. Everything is fine. The effects work for the turntables only through the program, otherwise only the filters. I also used it with my Traktor Timecode vinyls that I already had, flawless operation. When you use turntables with Timecode vinyls, all the buttons of the controller work normally, hot cue, beat jump, etc., everything. The sound is powerful and clear (connected via XLR) with the gain set to about ''10 o'clock''. During work hours (in a small bar), I only needed to turn the master slightly past the middle (about ''ten o'clock'') for the lower volume tracks. (Of course, turntables produce better sound and this is noticeable when switching from mp3-flac-wav to vinyl). Also, very good sound recording quality. The button layout is reminiscent of pioneer, except for the search button, which has two instead of one. The jog wheels are large and comfortable. You can adjust them to be tight or loose. In TT mode, they rotate normally like vinyl and you can feel a click where there is a hot cue, you feel it in your hand. Of course, there is no comparison with turntables, it's difficult to push and hold the jog wheels. Personally, it didn't work for me, I couldn't get used to this function. The screens are small, but they do their job. They show exactly what the track deck shows. There is a fix that gives them many functions, which I didn't install. The top effects are exactly like Traktor 2, and there are 4 additional effects on the mixer. The USB port is for connecting an external hard drive and unfortunately not for connecting another computer. The only negative so far is that all the faders don't have dust protection. I hope I don't find any other negatives along the way. As a first impression, it's a very good machine, plastic yes, but very good build quality (heavy stuff), which maybe should have been a bit cheaper.

Edit: After a month of use, it has resolved its issues. Incompatibilities between the controller and the software, although minor, are still annoying. It requires a lot of reading on the Native forum to figure out whether the issue is with the controller, the software (or the computer or the cable). As someone correctly mentioned, the controller is good but not perfect. The five stars remain due to the significantly better sound compared to the two pioneers I had before.
Edit 2: I just finished a season at a summer venue (beach bar, not a club setting) with higher demands compared to the small bar I worked at during the winter (as much as I could due to COVID). It's a much bigger venue with higher intensity and more dance music. Whether I used it as a standalone or connected it to the venue's mixer, it performed wonderfully. I had no issues. Clean sound and easy transitions. Some problems I mentioned earlier turned out to be related to the sensitivity of the jog wheels (sometimes when in cue mode, you can see that it's not stable, the cue point trembles - if you press play, it won't start from the correct point. A simple touch on the jog wheel stabilizes it).
