"Symposium" by Plato is one of the greatest works of ancient Greek and human spirit in general. With the interest it presents in the subject at the center of reflection, with the richness of its content and its artistic form (as thought and speech are intertwined in an amazing unity, perhaps more than in any other philosophical writing), it has garnered recognition and admiration from people who have genuine intellectual interests and emotional sensitivity. At the same time, it has been a permanent challenge, already since antiquity, for philosophers and philologists to turn to a multifaceted and in-depth study of the work: they identified problems of understanding and tried to provide satisfactory answers. I will attempt to give a concise presentation of the results of the philological and philosophical research of the "Symposium" in the following pages, starting with the very useful, always, visitation of names, which concerns the title of Plato's work.
