Two categories of people have always amazed and greatly appreciated me - and continue to inspire awe and admiration: those who possessed spirit, education, knowledge, and critical thinking, and those who applied and faithfully followed principles, values, and ethical behavior in their daily lives.
The ideal of the right person for me has always been one that combines knowledge with character and, to paraphrase a saying by Mahatma Gandhi, knowledge with virtue.
Knowledge, however - unlike principles, values, and virtue, which are taught only through example and educational behavior - is mainly acquired through writings, books, living traditions, teachings, and culture.
Knowledge, therefore, should contribute to the formation of characters (Gandhi), as well as the construction of a value system that will establish an ethics that highlights the fundamental virtues that today's people should follow. Therefore, a book that contained traces of condensed knowledge and wisdom would undoubtedly be more useful if it also constituted a treatise on ethics.
But where else can today's person find a way out and then choose and implement the right thing, apart from a good book, especially when it contains quotes and sayings of wise and prominent individuals?
One of the greatest philosophers in the world, Immanuel Kant, summarized the field of philosophy in four questions: what can I know, what ought I to do, what may I hope for, and what is man.
