Description
This collection of essays by the author is the fifth in a series (over thirty-five years) following: "Opinions" (Heraklion, 1969), "Remarks" (Athens, 1990), "Phoebus Has a Hut" (Athens, 1995), and "Critiques and Comparisons" (Athens, 2003). It contains, as the title suggests, book reviews in newspapers and magazines.
The "Bookworm" on the cover is both a book lover (one who forgot how many books they have read) and a representation of the author's deeper self. The only thing that prevents identification with him, apart from the form, is that archetype of Heraclitus "much learning does not teach understanding" (fr. 40). He believes that books provide knowledge, which the reader eventually transforms into Wisdom. The author is horrified by Jorge Luis Borges' statement that "he dreams of paradise as an infinite library," but he really enjoys reading; and here is the result.
