"The EU today is at risk of losing its direction regarding its aspirations for identity and development model. The European model is going through a serious crisis resulting from inadequate development, intensity of inequalities, the inability of the welfare state to address these new inequalities, degradation and insufficient environmental protection, citizens' indifference to elections, etc.
Strengthening the political dimension of the EU is necessary in order to preserve and enrich its social model, which is based on common solidarity and common principles regarding human rights and the rule of law, within the framework of sustainable development (i.e. the combination of development, social protection, and environmental protection), and the multilateral international system (i.e. the resolution of international problems through negotiations based on international law).
The ability of the EU to create a common framework for its migration policy, the development of public European life (e.g. mass media, participatory democracy), and political institutions will determine the future course of the EU."
