Description

With this book, an editorial attempt titled "Borderline Testimonies for the 1940s" is inaugurated. These are testimonies that have not yet found their place in public discourse for the 1940s, as the corresponding "memory communities" that will manage and transform them into a narrative alongside the rest have not yet been formed. This very situation - a situation of "borderline", that is, absence of classification - is what makes these specific testimonies "borderline", and consequently also names the overall editorial attempt as a "series". The first double testimony, which is presented in the first book of the series, concerns the 7th Division of the Democratic Army of Greece, which operated in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and was marked by the tortures suffered by specific fighters from their comrades. Despite the fact that several things have been said about these tortures, the narratives of the two protagonists of this book reveal the absence of a "memory community" that has effectively managed the trauma of both the victims of the tortures and the "critical", as the relevant literature points out, second generation.
