Description

Does this book claim to be the "History of Modern Greek Literature"? Of course not. That's why I made sure to add the word "little" in its title. First of all, it barely covers the period from 1985 to 2005, a comically short period. And furthermore, the authors and works mentioned here were arbitrarily chosen and only represent my personal taste. I suspect that deep down I am talking less about them and their work, and more about my own. [...]

The thirty-nine texts that follow belong to various genres. Interviews I conducted with our authors, life testimonies, an open letter to an institutional figure. And mainly reviews, sometimes in the form of comments or columns. All of them, except for two ("Born a storyteller" and "Vasiliki Street"), have already been published in the press during the last twenty years. Not always in exactly the same form - and I don't mean the sporadic additions. There were more published texts, and as I was editing them, I often had to merge them. However, it is clear that I have been slowly preparing this book, quite literally for years. [...]

The opinions expressed in the following pages often clash with the prevailing opinion about the works of several of my colleagues. In conflict with the established hierarchy. Perhaps someday it will be proven that justice is on my side. Perhaps not. The title I chose refers to the only thing that the texts in this book literally shout about. If I remain dedicated to something, it is the History of Modern Greek Literature. Little or much. Of the present or the future.
