Geoffrey Chaucer (1340-1400) was a particularly educated man for his time. He knew French, Italian, and Latin. He also had knowledge of History, Theology, Law, Astrology, and Alchemy. He was a court official and diplomat. However, what made him known to this day is his poetic work "The Canterbury Tales," written in the late 14th century.

It is a description of about thirty people from all social classes of the time. On their journey from Southwark to Canterbury, to pass the time pleasantly, each one tells a story. With vivid yet biting language, Chaucer presents through these stories a vivid picture of the society of that time. The freshness and realism of the descriptions make this work one of the greatest works of world literature.

In this edition, this work is rendered for the first time in the Greek language in its poetic form.

Endless are the sufferings and misfortunes of life
and we, the unfortunate, do not know what we desire
when with prayers and supplications we seek all the good things
and like a drunken mouse we wander here and there
without finding the way to go home
because, if you are drunk, you take the wrong road, poor soul.
