The problems and challenges faced by modern societies in the field of social policy are becoming increasingly complex and require interdisciplinary approaches in policy design and the mobilization of all stakeholders, especially citizens themselves. In this context, the role of the scientific community, particularly academic institutions, in activating the mechanisms that societies have for solving their problems is crucial.

With this rationale, the Department of Social and Educational Policy of the University of Peloponnese organized a conference on a particularly critical and timely topic, pharmaceutical policy and its reform under the broader goal of integrating social policy with developmental choices.

In addition to the substantive contribution we wish to make as a Department to the relevant scientific and social dialogue, with the publication of this volume, which includes the presentations of renowned scientists, the conference signifies the broader role that we perceive for our Department.
