Description

Unfortunately, the injustice suffered by the Northern Epirote Greeks from the then Great Powers after the Balkan Wars has consequences that last to this day. The Northern Epirotes are among the few citizens of Europe whose most basic human rights (language, education, religious worship, property, etc.) are violated by the official state within which they live. After the collapse of the regimes of real socialism, Albania went through a transitional period of adjustment and today is a member of many international organizations, such as the Council of Europe (since 1995), NATO (since 2009), etc., with the full support of Greece, and is a candidate member for accession to the European Union. Nevertheless, Tirana cites various excuses (practical inability, economic hardship, etc.) to avoid fulfilling its contractual obligations to the Northern Epirotes, from the early years of the establishment of the Albanian state.

Often, Athens did not take sufficient care for the protection of the Northern Epirotes. However, they constantly affirm their faith in mother-Greece and declare their Greek identity. This is certified by dozens of documents that have been drafted, as well as by continuous statements from their representatives. Until today, all these were scattered in various publications, books, articles, or even archives, without an attempt to gather them into a concise, useful, and unified text. This gap is filled by the present book, which contains a historical review of the issue. This is enriched by many primary sources (which are presented without altering their spelling or syntax) in order to demonstrate the reliability of the writings. In this context, dozens of books and articles were read, which are listed in detail, so that the reader can refer to them for more information.

This book is the result of many years of research and study of various archives in Athens and Epirus.
