Description

The dissolution of the multinational state of Yugoslavia (1991) led to a series of bloody wars from which seven new states emerged, namely the former six federal republics plus Kosovo, which was previously under the administration of Serbia. One of the former federal republics claimed the name "Macedonia" as an independent state and everything Macedonian (history, culture, monuments, historical personalities, etc.). It also engaged in other hostile actions towards Greece, such as stirring up minority and territorial claims.
For Greeks, these actions distort history and selfishly exploit and appropriate the national heritage by third parties. Nevertheless, part of the international public opinion is influenced by the intense propaganda of Skopje. In order to understand the problem that has arisen, this book analyzes the historical causes related to the turbulent past and the ethnic composition of the Balkan peoples, and clarifies certain terms that are not entirely clear, although they are in everyday use. It also examines the most significant arguments of the Skopjeans in favor of their "Macedonian identity" and presents the Greek response to them.
