This book is about learning and teaching mathematics as part of the education of language minority children.
Mathematics is a difficult subject for many children, and even more so for language minority children, as linguistic requirements are added to the demands of acquiring mathematical knowledge. In other words, a child who does not have a good command of the language of instruction faces additional challenges in learning mathematics.
This collective volume contributes to the discussion on the difficulties encountered by children whose language of instruction is not their mother tongue, the importance of language instruction in learning mathematics, and the role of mathematics in language acquisition.
The book is organized into three chapters.
