In the late 18th century, the French Revolution led the bourgeoisie to political power, completing the liberation of those productive forces that would support the capitalist mode of production. The world changed dramatically, but not to the benefit of the many. The bourgeoisie, the dominant class of the "Third Estate" who took power at that time, constituted about 3% of the population, as did the aristocrats and their hierarchies whom they replaced.
In 1917, amidst the turmoil of World War I, a new revolution dramatically changed the terms of politics and history. The transfer of power to the Soviets did not involve dominant and intermediary classes. On its own terms, with its own organization, its own institutions, the labor movement - and with it all those who, through their toil, build human civilization - brought the overwhelming majority of people to power. It measured the world according to its own needs and interests.
A new history began for humanity, a hundred years before our difficult days, under the banners and slogans of the Bolsheviks.
